Cadzow Design worked closely with the client to design the new South Dunedin Public Library and community complex, replacing the former Wolfenden & Russell building, which had occupied the site for over a century before being destroyed by fire.
Our team was responsible for the architectural design and delivery of the full base-build building consent documentation. In 2023, the Dunedin City Council selected the building to become the new South Dunedin Public Library and community facility.
The building was name Te Whata o Kaituna by Te Rūnanga o Ōtākou, recognising the cultural heritage of the area and the importance of shared community spaces.
The Dunedin City Council and its project Architect completed the internal fit-out design, rear courtyard, canopy, and selected exterior elements. The project was delivered through a collaborative design process, resulting in a civic building that reflects both its setting and community purpose.
